Applicants must be in possession of:

  1. a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree with at least Second Class Honours or
  2. a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree with at least Second Class Honours in appropriate subjects as approved by the Board or
  3. a Bachelor degree with a Third Class (Honours) in Engineering or in a relevant area of study and are in possession of other qualifications, including relevant experience following their first cycle degree or
  4. equivalent qualifications approved by Senate on the recommendation of the Board.

Admission of applicants under paragraph (c) and (d) shall be made conditional on the results of an interview and in such cases the Board may require applicants to successfully complete a preparatory programme.

The Master of Science in Engineering (Electrical) full-time course is a research-based postgraduate course that extends for three semesters. As an interested applicant, you will have the opportunity to consult with the Faculty of Engineering prior to enrolment to discuss your research proposal. Applicants interested in pursuing a Master of Science by Research are to consult with staff members before submitting their application and research proposal.

The course shall be offered in areas of study in Engineering where the Faculty can offer expert guidance and supervision.

Students are required to obtain a total of 90 ECTS credits over a period of 6 Semesters of part-time study. Students will be required to register for the study-units as directed by the board.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Master of Science in Engineering - M.Sc. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Engineering.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Carry out an in-depth dissertation on an area of choice.
  • Use the appropriate research methodology skills for independent and academic research.
  • Discuss and write effectively using the appropriate jargon related to the area.
  • Contribute your knowledge on electrical engineering at the work place and in discursive atmospheres.
  • Be able to use your practical mind set to solve engineering-related issues.
